The name Maysand has become synonymous with all that's best in the art of building conservation and preservation. The reason is simple: an approach which truly is different, an approach which is intelligent, meticulous, sympathetic, knowledgeable, effective and, above all, passionate. Here you will find people who care deeply about what they do. And the more you know about us, the more you will appreciate the Maysand way.
Welcome to Maysand.
When it comes to real achievement, you only need look at the sheer scale of our accomplishments and impressive client portfolio to appreciate that Maysand is a distinguished and trusted building conservation and restoration specialist.
Yet beyond the North of England, where our capabilities have long been acclaimed, there are still architects, project managers and surveyors who have not yet experienced our brand of skill, talent and knowhow. But that is changing. And with good reason.
From restoration to conservation, from research to resources, our efforts are boundless. We search out the original, the authentic and the historically accurate. The energy and enthusiasm we bring to each and every project is unparalleled.
But this level of quality is not accomplished through theoretical knowledge and a keen attitude alone. It takes monumental practical and logistical strength to deliver the way we deliver. And deliver we do.
At Maysand we ensure that our CSR policy is not just some jargon-filled document tucked away in a file gathering dust. We make it part of who we are and what we do on a daily basis.
The Maysand ethos is underscored throughout our dealings with our team — right from day one inductions. Many of our employees have more than 10 years service with the company and we actively involve our team in all aspects of the work and bring our CSR policy to life in our offices and on our sites. Our dedication to training is designed to raise the standards of employees, their knowledge of both environmental and health and safety risks.
Our training is designed to help each individual reach their true potential.
We give each person the skills they need for long-term sustainability in the workplace.
The Company is OHSAS 18001 accredited.
All our employees carry CSCS cards.
All operatives are Asbestos Awareness trained.
All operatives are PASMA trained.
We give local people full access to all vacancies.
We provide safe working conditions for all our employees.
We provide excellent terms of employment.
100% of our workforce are Emergency First Aid trained.
All site operatives and staff have full company workwear, embossed with the company logo.
At Maysand we recognise that as a thriving business we have an opportunity to play a role within our own community here in Oldham. We do not operate in isolation so, when and where we can, we actively engage with our community. That ethos extends to work on sites. For example, on a long-running public project in Lytham, we worked with a local college and produced students’ artwork for the site’s perimeter boards.
On an ongoing basis:
We sponsor the Moorside Marshalls, a locally based youth basketball team.
We support the work of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in Royton.
We support the work of the Great Ormond Street Leukemia Charity through fundraising activities.
We support Silverdale Cricket Club.
At Maysand we believe in doing what we can to protect the environment, whether that’s cutting back on our own carbon footprint or making use of recyclable materials where possible. Our strategy is not just about complying with the latest legislation. We set clear targets to improve our environmental performance year on year.
We aim to obtain materials from sustainable sources wherever possible. We have ISO 9001 accreditation and through that continually monitor our purchasing practices and internal operations, including energy and transport. Our aim is to make sure we make best use of natural resources and minimum environmental impact.
Our environmental policy means we:
Take steps to cut down energy waste.
Use renewable energy sources.
Use recyclable materials
Carry our risk assessments on site to prevent pollution
Have a waste management policy in place which means we look at every opportunity we can to recycle.
We have achieved ISO 14001 which focuses on environmental management and have set ongoing targets to achieve
We have company vehicles fitted with real time vehicle management systems
As member of the Stone Federation and Property Care Association we constantly develop relationships with suppliers, customers, contractors and other third parties to discuss and promote improvements in environmental performance.
Maysand takes an ethical stance to ensure the materials they use on projects come from ethical sources. Our policy was developed as we became increasingly concerned that some stone imported from India, China and elsewhere comes from quarries where the workers are exploited often this can be through the use of child or forced labour. Maysand made its ethical pledge in 2010.
For Maysand ethical sourcing means avoiding using quarries where:
Children are used.
Workers are forced to work.
Workers are not free to join or form trade unions.
Workers face unsafe or unhygienic working conditions.
This pledge also states:
We will develop ethical sources for all our supply lines.
We will do what we can to influence sub-contractors we work with to increase awareness of the issues.
We will try to influence other key players in the industry.
Darren Bell, Head of Parks and Leisure Service, Fylde Borough Council:
“Maysand were flexible, professional and accommodating. Throughout the project, every time we visited the site there were clear signs of real and significant progress. The firm tried to be as considerate as possible to everyone throughout the process. Working with Maysand on the Ashton Gardens project was an excellent experience. The quality of the workmanship has been exceptional. I would have no hesitation in recommending them — they are, without a doubt, one of the best companies I have personally worked with.”
Jason Kennedy, conservation & design officer for Wigan MBC:
“With this kind of work, the nation’s heritage is at stake and you don’t get a second chance. We’ve worked with Maysand a number of times so we could trust them do a meticulous and high quality job.”
John Kelly, consultant structural engineer Curtins:
“We had worked together before – at Our Lady and St Nicholas’ Parish Church on Liverpool’s waterfront – so had every confidence in Maysand’s capabilities. The Maysand name is coming up again and again on prestigious heritage projects. Its reputation is obviously growing and with good reason.”
Stephen McGlade, senior building surveyor with the National Trust:
“I found the Maysand team to be extremely helpful and very focused on the work. They were diligent and worked incredibly hard to complete the project in the timeframe. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with Maysand again.”
As co-founder of Maysand I believe that a business isn’t just about making profits. To be truly successful it has to fulfil a wider purpose. That means it has to have a vision that is clear and targeted. It needs a mission that’s not full of platitudes rather tangible outcomes. It also needs core values that come from the top and that resonate throughout the whole business. This is our Vision, Mission and Values statement.
